Help MODELING!!!
show user profile  maxstarter123
I'm trying to model a helmet - a simple one.
Can anyone give me suggestions on how to model the shape of this:

Should I do splines, or sphere...
I've been trying but I can't seem to get the results I want.

Thanks in advance.

Iv'e mad pretty much the exact same helmet from nurbs, spline modelling, and from box modelling. The easiest thing to go for is probably edit poly, but i think i got my best results from spline modelling as the beizer curves allowed control over the curve of the dome-bit.

I'd probably just get a low poly hemisphere, extrude a rim around the bottom, tweak it so you get the swooping back and peaked front, and slap a turbosmooth on it.

start with a sphere and use poly modeling. always think in terms of what kind of primitives will give you the best result and save the most time. really all you have to do is start with a sphere with a manangable amount of divisions like 8 to 12, turn into editable poly, go to polygons in the stack, select the lower half of the circle, delete polys, then extude out the edges to create the lip. when the outer shell is made then add the shell modifier to the stack. should give you the desired result.

Start with a plane, and then loop it around manually; extruding out the edges and welding the verts. Then turbo smooth for final effect I have modelled many helmits and that is how I normally do it.
