Help with matchmoving camera, can't make object stay
show user profile  lincon
Hi

I'm trying to make an object stay in the right place using matchmover pro and max 8, i've run the script everything seems fine but as I put an object eg: box in the scene and move along the time line the box moves with the camera, i'm trying to get it to stay eg: on the table, insted of moving, I think it's called pinning, my 3ds max bible doesn't seem to cover it, i've tried whats in the bible but didn't work.

Any ideas?
thanks

matchmoving is an art to itself.

Handtrack some points for reference like if you want something lying on the table, track the tablecorners so you have a reference in max where your table is at.

Hi
Thanks
This is where I show just how much I don't know about max :(

When you say track the table corners, do you mean in max? i've used matchmover and it seems to have tracked everything correctly, I've imported the matchmover ms script into max and I can see my table footage in the viewport when I select camera 1, as I move along the time line my handheld footage of the table moves the way I shot it, when placeing a box on the table I kinda hope it was one button press to tell the box to stay there on the table insted of moving.

Sorry I sound dumb, i'm really trying to leanr max but at my age it's hard :(
thanks for any help

Hi thanks for getting back

No the camera stays still, my video in the viewport moves as a video clip, but the camera stays still.

In matchmover i didn't change any settings, just pressed f10 (2d) i've tried 3d but it said i need 2 video clips.

thanks once again for taking the time.

my guess is you haven't solved the camera yet in matchmover.

Alt+B, put the videofile as background image.

Hmmm, use your common sense on how you put everything together or do a search for a tutorial.
You need to find reference points of your table to know where everything is positioned.
I assume you haven't setupped a proper coordinate system in matchmover, next to that I don't think you've setupped the lensdistortion, etc...

There's so much to take into account when 3D-tracking, as I said before, it's an art to itself and often underestimated.
