Help! Bad Geometry

You guys know I wouldn't bother you like this unless I needed it! I'm struggling with some bad geometry (yes it belongs to the project I'm working on and just posted about).

Here is the skinny-

I need to sweep a gradient ramp across this bendy tube-

The pisser is it's a dense mesh o' shit from CAD.

So in an attempt I deleted the shell portion, optimized the mesh best I could, unwrapped it, extruded it in (negative value) to get the shell back and copy the UVs. Only thing though is now my mesh is trashed to shit and not rendering properly. The optimized geo is simple enough. I cannot see any weirdness going on. But it's black in the viewport (Maya) and not rendering properly (Vray).

Below is an .FBX (output from Maya so I don't know if it'll transfer to 3ds nice). It has the UVs mapped to it, but it's bad geometry. I'd be most appreciative if any of you could open it up and take a look at it for me and let me know wtf is going on with it.

Not reversed normals, no overlapping verts.. it looks clean-ish, but there is something horrible wrong.


Thank you for any attempts or advice. I'd hate to have to attempt to unwrap the dense CAD.

Fixed it with the old box-attach trick.

No idea what was wrong.

I downloaded it, but Dave was faster. So I don't bother opening it.

Dave. You just saved me about 10 hours of work. Not even joking. I have another one for you if you wouldn't mind (DL Below)-

I have no clue what is causing this inside of Maya. I also tried combining it to a box, deleting all history and separating again. This is so awesome. Thank you!!

Why I'm unable to import it? I used FBX before, it doesn't supposed to work like that...

Weird. I tried exporting again with Polytrans instead of out of the box Maya-

If any of you can import the original (original link below), I'd prefer it. At this point though, beggars cannot be choosers and I'll take what I can get. Thank you

Neither of those exports looked or rendered wrong for me, but I did the box thing anyway.

Super weird, I know! Well thank you! The last one didn't work like the first, but I'm DL'ing 3ds max demo to play around with it myself to see wtf is the issue.

I took another look, the normals are flipped, but that's about it.
