Hi all

i am new to 3d smax, and i really enjoy working on it. Only it drives me crazy sometimes with wierd problems. For example for my assignments there are a lot of water features like fountains, waterfall, fog , etc. I mostly use parrays with space warps like gravity and deflectors to create the effects. In some cases i am also using pfsource to send particles along a certain path. The problem is 3d smax slows down to a snail's pace during working as well as rendering

can someone help me out?

Set the amount of visible particles in the viewport to something lower than it is?

Do you have Vray installed?

As for your material colour problem.Go to the Environment dialog and ensure 'Ambient' is set to complete black.

Also, you may need to make sure the current scene is set up to use VRay as its renderer, before you can start working with VRay materials. I know this is how some other renderers work.
Specialty: Non-organic modelling and effects.
Setup: 3D Studio 2010 with finalRender.
Rig: No, no I can't.
