How can I make holes.. like complex engravings... in a vray metal material using a pattern texture? And then make light come through it?

Well.. you may have to ask someone with VRay experience for VRay specific questions.
My answer was pretty generic and usually works the same way for most renderers.

Hi L . Use a vray displacement modifier( found right at the bottom end of the modifier list usually) and put an image into the map slot, set the amount of height and softness etc and you're in like flinn :) you can drag a copy of the map into the material editor and choose instance if you want to adjust or change the image.

I dont think Im describing my problem correctly, so I made some renders. Here's what I want to do (but using vray materials, not the standard ones):

And here's what I got so far (in vray):

This second render was done using vray and vray materials, but by doing so, I cant seem to make the sphere inside visible. That sphere inside is supposed to glow and emit light through the bigger sphere.

Here's the file itself if anyone has the time to take a look at it:

I figured it out. As I was using a composite material I was supposed to lower down the % of each material. Thanks for your time though! :D
