HDRI and Foreground blending
show user profile  9krausec
So... look at this (I'm hoping it doesn't automatically embed because it's a larger image)-

https://fbcdn-sphotos-d-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-frc3/t31.0-8/1398701_754378271269515_9209140490335016061_o.jpg

Now.. it looks like the foreground (ground plane) is perfectly blended with an HDRI background. Is that what I'm looking at? How does one go about this? In post? ahhhh, it looks so good. Sorry.

i think its all done in PS. at least that's how i would have done this.
just render a highly reflective floor, and i would put it in a overlay blended layer in PS.

but personally i think this is not so good example. the model doesn't look very realistic in the background.
i think the reason is that the guy missed a few things- first the floor reflects nicely the model, but it doesn't reflect anything from the background. it looks weird...
secondly the shadows are harsher on the model then on the background- it just isn't a very good fit in my eyes.

anyway, im sure you are going to do a much better job than this guy did.

good luck,
Joel

Haha, thanks Joel. Not doing this anytime soon, but it caught my eye and I wanted to know the most practical way about doing it.

So much to learn!

Last time I checked, concrete wasn't so damn shiny.

Okay, fine. I thought it looked good at first glance.. My bad. I think I was just excited about the blending. Jeeze. I'm surrounded by elitists. (jk chaps. good to be critical).
