HD Playback without BluRay burner
show user profile  Boomer

I have a BluRay player (Sony) but not a BR burner. Does anyone know if its possible to burn a CD/DVD data disk with some HD content for HD playback on a BR player?

Are there other ways to playback HD on TVs without a BR burner?

All I do is convert to DIVX and my PS3 reads it just fine at 720, and looks great.. I haven't done full 1080 though. I think most sony players read divx and a variety of formats now, give it a try.

OK, I checked my user manual (imagine that) and it talks about AVCHD support. Not familiar with this - hopefully its easy to conver to this.

Hi Matt,
HD DVD etc is just a format for the files.
The dics themselves are just a carrier.

That page outlines what you need.
You could even burn HD content to a CD, just not very much of it.

I use a media player / streamer called Popcorn Hour. Sure, it's still a bit buggy, but that's mostly when I'm in menues. When I'm watching a movie it works just fine. It supports up to 1080p, although I've only tried with 720p, since that's the max rez of my telly. Everything is on my stationary computer (I'm going to get a server / NAS to store everything on eventually) and I'm streaming the content across wired network.
