- you mean that win 8 does not support 3ds max 2012, so I have to go to previous max like 2011 or 2010, or to install win 7 instead.

-is there any chance to be graphic card processer or ram (some missing drivers)

-by the way I am new in max.

to be fair - any version from max9 upwards *should* run on win8 as win8 is the same basic architecture as 7 & vista.

use 64 bit version if you can - on 64 bit windows. plenty of memory. >4GB recommended hence you need 64 bit for that.

install all available service packs.

If you design I don't think it's a wise move to upgrade to a new OS until at least sp1, give it a few months and let everyone else iron out the bugs, personally I'm skipping 8, there's no need for it.

8 introduces DirectX11.1

practical upshot : this adds RGB565 texture support back in which M$ in their infinite wisdom took out in DX11. that's useful for large dynamic textures when you're low on vram. got to use RGBA8888 on DX11 (vista,7). ideally you want that anyway but gotta squeeze into however much memory is in the system.

would be nice if M$ would put A1 texture back for low end text for the same reason. ideally want A8 but that all adds up too. wish they wouldn't just take stuff out cause they don't think we want it any more.

ofc if you use opengl the above doesn't apply as the ARB don't do daft things like that. one more reason to move to GL.

/end technobabble that no-one else will care about.

8's fine. even if it does have a bit of a quirky UI. still prefer 7 as do most others.

8.1 coming soon apparently.

this is tech politics :)

we the undersigned demand micro$oft give us back our 1 bit alpha texture format with immediate effect.

or we'll point at you & go .... ha ! u haz taken out a useful texture format. u is stoopid !

& switch to opengl 'n stuff.

if you've paid for it, ask autodesk. it's their fucking program.

if it's a dodgy pirate copy, fuck off.

if you're on eval, use 2014 eval not 2012.

sorry to be frank. in one of those moods.

maybe someone else wants to do free autodesk support for them.

Submit a bug report, It only took them 5 years to fix viewport speed, so they should get round to you in about 50 years. You could speed up the process by becoming a shareholder, they take priority these days.

try softimage instead unless you have a dependancy on anything max specific.

no point learning a legacy program in its last death throws unless you have to.

or welcome to our world of pain.
