Hair & Fur Crashes in MAX 9? THoughts?
show user profile  Dr. Jim
MAX9 32-bit....quadcore, 6gb ram

I have a simple scene with hair/fur on a sphere,....hair is 23000 count, with default otherwise....
Using Vray (tried scanline too).....
It gets a few frames in then crashes.

I have tried scanline,...Vray,..turned off all lights...etc..etc....trying to find cause.

Any ideas?
Any chance this is a known issue and there is some simple setting?

...I remeber that I may have seen it , before . Actually I don't know clearly what happened internally . Largerly , this may be due to your memery limits . What I mean is your memery may run out.

yeah i have seen max do this ALOT when it comes to memory, set something wrong or try to do something that exceeds your memory and boom! ... i guess max doesnt have much for internal memory management .. this has happend to me with hair , fluids . and just about anything dynamic ..

Or when trying to render at a very high resolution, such as for a poster.

Seriously, why can't they fix that? I think once it popped up a warning, to the effect of, "Pushing that button will make things so complicated, the software will crash, so the operation has been cancelled." Normally, it keeps going until everything just stops.
