Grimlock

Hi

I’ve spent ages modelling up something that looks like Grimlock. Not finished yet, but a bit stuck. I wanted to do it as a technical 3D model so you could see inside, and how he works. But not sure now? Not sure how to pose or material him either?

Lots of not sure’s to deal with :(

Anyone any ideas, please :)

Everything!

Every arm, leg, head, gun and finger joint is controlled by Wire Parameters. All the Hydraulic pistons and pipes are set to follow.

I must be mad! :P

As far as wires, I only see about ten, maybe twelve. Could definitely add more wires to frame him.

You asked about texturing... well unwrapping would be a major bitch. I'd uv map the main areas, like the outer shell and use procedural maps for the rest. You could get away with three or four shades of grey materials for the insides. Sure, you could use 50 shades of grey but I reckon that would be overkill.

If you do unwrap the outer shell nicely you could chuck it into zbrush, add a few scratches and bumps, then use cavity maps to help paint a diffuse texture. Else, dirt maps are kinda cool.

Anyway, I gotta say, it's not often I'm jealous but your model makes me wish I had the patience to make something that nice. I normally get bored of a model after two weeks; I couldn't imagine spending 10 years off-and-on on the same model. Well done.

Hi

Now are we talking about wire parameters or Wire Frame? In theory it can be transformed into the Dinosaur, but there may be a couple of clashes lol :D I think I could animate it and avoid the clashes being seen.

As its supposed to be a Fictional Technical Illustration I was wondering if I should keep it looking clean and not scared. There are thousands of components and 1,383,814 Polys so I don’t think I can map every component?
