contrary to popular belief, gaming oriented cards don't just burst into flames and explode at the first sight of max. In fact, they are designed for much heavier lifting than max's viewport.

Quite right Stabby. I regularly leave my game card rendering iray scenes at 100% for days on end, and I haven't had a failure yet.

For me, it would depend on who was paying for it.

Personally, the GTX. Cheaper and I play games more than I max.

GTX/Quadro = Same bloody card different software, when will people learn!

They wont over heat unless you stick it in an oven. Providing your workstation has good air flow which it should being a CAD workstation after all it will not over heat.

The only cards that I know of that may have heating issues is the dual GTX 590/ 690. Due to there being two processors on board there is little room for fans making them actually circulate air rather than pushing it out the back of the case.
