do any of you know any good scattering tools like scatterFX and Multi Scatter ?
max's scatter is crap and particle flow is waaay too heavy.

Im looking for a good solution to populate some alien outdoor environments with animated objects.

Multiscatter is good - I've used that before. Forest Pack from Itoo software is the other biggie that often gets mentioned. I don't know how well either of them cope with animated instances though.

dude forest pack is AMAZING.
seriously...you can do trillions of objects.
And it is extremely flexible and deep.

The catch is that it has a bit of a learning curve and is often overkill for simple things...but man is it powerful.

my 2 cents.

The Corona Render scatter feature is very impressive also. I don't know if you use Corona or not, but it handles as many or more heavy instances as Multiscatter, with various parameter options. I was quite impressed with it, and even with Multiscatter in my arsenal, I tend to work with Corona if I need a scatter effect, specifically for that reason.
