mister3d has some pretty good beginner modelling tuts on there too
i thought subdivis was dead- probably due to the forum and stuff being hacked so many times, shame really, pretty cool place in it's day when glen southern and wayne robson were around more

'The Science For CG'- great thread. i knew all of the stuff as do lighting alot and read alot of tutorials before. but id completely forgotten the importance of some of the smaller bits. so its a great read for anybody whatever standard, as it may just remind you about that one extra detail you have forgotten to include
