Gear Rigging Wire Parameters
show user profile  jjrakman
So I'm attempting to rig some gears using wire parameters in 3DS Max.

I've got two gears that are exactly the same successfully rigged using wire parameters.

I've got 4 other gears of varying sizes with varying number of teeth.

However when I attempt to rig the remaining 4 gears, nothing happens.

I right click on one gear, go to Z rotation through wire parameters, click on the other gear, do the same so the Parameter Wiring dialogue box shows up.

I have the Z access on both gears highlighted, and on the bottom I have -Z-Rotation in both expression fields. I tried the double arrow, the right arrow, and the left arrow and clicked update after each of them.

But when I try to rotate the gear with the Select and Rotate tool, the "wired" gear doesn't rotate at all. It just sits there.

I try rotating the other one, thinking I might not be rotating the "master" and same thing the other one just sits there.

Any ideas as to what I might be doing wrong, or missing on this?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks much!

Seems like perhaps you've broken the link somewhere, or set one of the parameters up the wrong way around? Just did a basic experiment with some boxes, and provided all your cogs are being controlled by a "master" object, all seems to go as expected.
