3.5 out of 4 GB ram usable - win7 pro 64bit - why?
show user profile  horizon
So, I have 4 GB ram installed (2x2GB in dual channel), and my control panel system says:

Installed memory (RAM): 4,00 GB (3,50 GB usable)
System Spec (free software) says 3584 MB
Performance tab in task manager says 3583 total physical memory

Why is that? Can I do something about it?

It's late and I'm spastic.

This is what my perfomrance shows. Recently upgraded my processor, motherboard, PSU and RAM.

My guess would be fiddle around in your BIOS.

I clicked on the resource monitor button on there, went to memory tab and 513MB is labeled 'hardware reserved' (grey color).

Dafuq is that? Anyone else have that?

I hovered my mouse over 'hardware reserved' and it told me this:

"Memory that is reserved for use by the BIOS and some drivers for other peripherals"

I only have 20MB reserved however. Try unplugging some peripherals and seeing what's eating up your 500. Maybe your BIOS was coded by blind monkeys who piss on each other for fun.

The only thing related to memory in my BIOS was memory remap, I googled it, switched it on as they said and voila, settled. It's mentioned in that MS page too.

Thanks guys
