FumeFX - Shouldn't -200 gravity cause smoke to drop?
show user profile  Spear Chuck
I have FumeFX gravity in the obj/src list tab and in the simulation tab gravity is set to -200 but yet the smoke still goes straight up. Do I need to set the smoke temp below zero for smog to drop?

The caldron is listed in the obj/src tab as a collision object so why does the smoke leak out the bottom? The FFX Simple Src001 icon is inside the thing.
.

Just cheat and invert your scene? Ie. Have everything (except the smoke) upside down? :D

I fixed the smoke coming out the bottom by setting the caldron as a solid instead of a volume in the obj/src tab

to get your smoke to drop, you just need to set "Smoke Buoyancy" to a neg value (like -50 instead of -1), and zero out the "Temperature Buoyancy"

How do I get it to expand less? I just made the icon smaller

changing the radius of your emitter should help (lower it some)

-edit- for example, this emitter/bowl depth ratio

gives this result

*that's with all settings default, except for the smoke and temp buoyancy, which are -50 and 0

and you could always change the time scale to slow it down, giving it more of a "mystical" look / etc. lots of things can be done to get a specific look

What do you have system gravity at? I have -.05

simulation gravity setting is 1
system units: 1 unit = 1 inch

I redid the whole thing and it's shaping up but now the pot, even though it's a solid in the obj/src has smoke emitting out of it

the only params i changed for that test were the 2 buoyancys (so whatever temp is default is what it was at), and my fuel was also turned off

What does spacing do in Simulation?

lower spacing values = higher voxel(grid) resolution = longer sim times. it looks like u are using the bowl as the emitter?

not sure what params you changed. like I said above, to get step 1, you really only need to change 2 things. once you get that, you slowly adjust to get the desired effect

you'd probably benefit the most from spending a few hours just going through some tutorials, getting to know the parameters. It's not always the most motivating, but it's essential.

True (@digs).....hahah.....asking one off questions about settings in FumeFX is a really bad way to go about it.
In Fume...a LOT of the parameters play off each other....so adjusting values is not 'absolute', but rather 'relative'.

You really must do some tutorials....Allan McKay has free ones (older but still apply) and there are a million GOOD ones on youtube.
There is no quick way to get control of Fume parameters......its a great plugin and can produce amazing stuf really quick!...but THEN to control it (as you see) it gets very complicated very fast.
