Fume FX: Advanced DVD just released!
show user profile  amckay
Hey guys, bit of a shameless plug but after virtually no sleep for quite some time I've just finished my new Fume FX training DVD called Fume FX: Advanced. The DVD's focus is designed for creating realistic fire, digital pyrotechnics/explosions etc. and using Fume in a Film FX pipeline. There are loads of practical examples starting from pre production through to building scripts and tools, creating all of the FX, rendering and compositing them. There are over a dozen chapters, and a heck of a lot of content, just over 24 hours of video on the disc ;)
I've put this up currently for Direct Download, as I get a lot of emails asking for cheaper mailing solutions since fedex etc. can get pretty expensive. Plus it means you can have it right away rather than waiting for it to be posted.
So personally I think this is my best work yet, I've put a lot of time, blood and sweat into making it the best resource I can for all things fluids! It also contains a large portion of my SIGGRAPH 2008 Master Class on Digital Pyrotechnics.

You can purchase and download it here:http://www.allanmckay.com/FFXDVD2.html

It will also be available as a hard copy DVD via Turbosquid not too far down the line.

Cheers guys!

-Allan McKay

Yup. Looks awesome.
Only problem is alot of your stuff is aimed at the more advanced user,...which I am not when it comes to particles...etc.
Ofcourse....everything I do know has been from your free tutorials!

thx

I think the advantage of video tutorials is you get to see what the person is doing, rather than skipping steps you see everything they're doing so its easier to rewind and keep on track.
12+ years ago when I was writing more literature and paper tutorials it was a lot more of a headache to write them, and at least for me if I ever did a tutorial back then reading would sometimes not absorb as much as you would from watching and hearing the user. So that's a definite bonus.
I've had a lot of fresh 3D people jump in and pick up a lot of stuff rather quickly so I try to make the topics advanced but the approach to teaching them pretty easy to follow.

I do plan to release a lot of new free content which will be aimed at both advanced and beginners, I've been stuck running a fx studio the last 2 years so havent had much time to build new content but its coming, loads of new fume, tp, compositing, pflow (especially box 2 when it ships) and new max 2010 tutorials will be popping up on my website over the coming months, so keep an ear to the ground ;)

but thanks guys, I just started getting back on this forum after a few years absence, I used to be pretty active in here 10+ years ago.. wow its been a while!

Yeah I hate that, I've been trying to go to college to learn cgi and animation, but my parents think it's a joke, so does everyone else, they don't support you and like he said they think you're playing with computers and that's really aggravating
