Fracture?
show user profile  Garp
Well, it was about time someone came with something better: VoroFrag.
My old pile of crap fracture script can take a well deserved retirement :)

Thanks for the link, Garp. Don't put down your old script, it was/still is world famous. I mean, hell, Autodesk used it for one of their learning videos.

They did?!
*calls lawyer*

Anyway, I've been playing with VoroFrag for a good hour now and it works really well. A little sluggish when increasing complexity but that's to be expected for a first version.
If you like it, please let its author know by giving him a +. I for one would like to see other features and I guess many votes would boost his motivation.

Garp, your script will work long after this plugin has stopped being compiled for later versions of Max. Yours will be around longer. I've used it loads. It's awesome.

lol - a buddy of mine asked me the other day: "Can you do this in max?" - the video was of a dude punching / cracking the ground using Fracture Voronoi

Thank you guys. That's very kind of you :)

Still, the plugin is a huge improvement over my script. Among other things, it deals correctly with concave, hollowed or shelled meshes. And you don't have to go and watch a movie while it's figuring out the chunks.

I used your script a few months back several times for some internal testing stuff and was happy with it no doubt. You rock garp.

That being said - this script is super impressive. I really like the realtime iteration capability. looks like a great tool. I just wish i was good at math so i could code some of that stuff.

LittleLordPotala has made an update to his fracture plugin. Here.

That looks amazingly clean and functional.
I can't help thinking that if some dude by himself has developed this (as Garp similarly did with his fracture script) why Autodesk are so lame at introducing functionality of this type. Instead we get The Ribbon, Steering Wheels etc - the shit that most long term users switch off the instant they see it cluttering their viewports.

But that's a good thing. Once his plugin has reached maturity, Autodesk might buy it. $$$!

Well, having sacked 75% of the programmers and product managers to maintain stockholder payouts, and it's amazing they can do as little as they do.

Agreed, Nik.
Since max is but a small part of AD, I don't expect its future to get brighter.
Looking more and more into modo (especially since Luxology and The Foundry merged). I might make a complete shift in a few months.
