Flipped Normals on Editable Poly

Sometimes parts of my editable poly have their normals flipped and it's rather annoying selecting faces and flipping them back. It sometimes happens when I'm attaching separate meshes together, and the mesh I am attaching has the normals flipped. I think it also occurs when using other common edit poly operations though I can't be sure. The problem doesn't manifest itself often enough to be able to trace the exact issue, but occurs just frequently enough to annoy me. Maybe it's something I'm doing wrong.

I don't seem to recall having this issue in the past, it seems to happen with Max 2012, so maybe it's a program bug? Anyone else experiencing this?

Also, with 3ds Max 2012, flipped normals are hard to see since Nitrous seems to shade polygons the same regardless of normal orientation, making problem normals harder to spot unless I select them. Typically it works out alright, but those small polys are hard to spot. Any tips?

You could go to properties and select backface cull. Then any flipped norms will become invisible. Then, to make your life easier select everything and press flip -> then the offending norms will be the only thing visible. Should be easy to fix from there.

But in regards to why this is happening? sorry, I don't have 2012.

Hmm... seems as if it's a program bug with both the Nitrous viewport renderer, mirror tool, and probably in a bunch of other places as well. They should really fix that, seems like a pretty critical bug. :/

Also found this script that might save me a few grey hairs, though still a couple of extra steps:

1. Reset Xform before attaching objects
2. If you have random faces flipped, dont waste your time just go to Modifier Stack > Normals > Unify Normals. Should be a quick.
