FinalToon shadows and hatching help required...
show user profile  xandos
Hi guys, I'm in the process of making a stylised animation - which means finaltoon. I'm having a small issue with something rather strange, I'll try to explain it but the picture does the best job.

Basically, I want areas of shadow to be a solid colour. This works projecting solid shadows onto the ground, where the ground texture has no hatching. However, casting shadows onto the object using hatching no longer casts solid shadows - it only casts shadows on the parts that have been hatched... See this image to understand:

Does anyone have any ideas how I can have hatching and also cast proper solid shadows onto the same material?

Thanks for reading.

Hey, just to say I solved this problem, in a bit of a stupid manner. A duplicate object slightly larger, which neither casts nor recieves shadows, and then you draw the hatch onto that shape instead, with an instance in the opacity map.

Is there an actual way to do this rather than a bodge job?

Well, another way to bodge it would be to render in seperate passes and work it out through compositing, probably. To be honest I can't figure out what it is you're actually trying to do though, nor do I have any knowledge of finaltoon.
