What file formate should I render a flic for a projector?

I animated particles to be projected on this sig animation. I plan to project the particles as a light map. What's the best way going about it?

Will a Quicktime clip alpha channel be recognized in a projected light? Or a sequence of .png work?

I've used avi in projections but didn't have to worry about the alpha

Cant imagine a projector needs alpha channels. It's a light bulb and cant only shine from part of it. Just use white where you would want alpha.

It's a snow particle system I want to project onto the ribbon, excluding everything else. The alpha in between flakes has to have some color assigned to it, right? The alpha channel should be neutral enough so they blend in when particles pass over the Merry Xmas txt.

The whole idea is to exclude the particles from view as they pass over everything other than the ribbon.

On a real ribbon? Use white for the snow and black for the 'alpha' it wont shine black so it'll shine nothing. Not sure why I said white, black will be your alpha areas. Not an alpha channel just black in the image.

My definition of alpha channel is the black area.

So when the snow clip projects flakes...the black area in between flakes won't be visible? In what codac should the clip be in?

I'm getting closer!

The snow is falling on just the ribbon with a 1.5 knot wind to the south west. The snow is a blizzard so I need to turn the speed down and increase the size
