Female Hand

Saw a really nice female hand on 3dTotal forums and I thought I'd give it a go myself. Also gave me a chance to test out how useful Qmesher is in zbrush, and whether it means no more retopologising for me. Well, here's the mesh after Qmesher did it's thing:

And, here's a normal map applied (yeah, I have to fix the fingernails a bit):

Overall, I'm pretty excited about this as I would always try to make my models simpler so that I wouldn't have such a headache retopologising them. Sure, I can clean up and optimise it a bit but it looks like 90% of the work is done for me.

BTW, this isn't "Finished Art" and not really a "WIP" but I'll probably chuck on some textures and have a go rigging it.

Well it's a hand. A pretty good hand. but female? not feeling that at all. looks decidedly male to me. The fingers arent slender and feminine at all.

Thanks for the crits, Grotey. Yeah, I sort of used my own hand as reference for the wrinkles and stuff combined with these ref's. I'll see what I can do to fix the chunkiness.

Sorry , but . That hand haves several issues .
Thumb is wrong , looks like a frankfurter , other fingers too , but this one the most .
Wrist is also wrong , and the arm part also , as our hand isn't have that rounded form . And you use many polys , so , you could make more accurate representation .

The skin between thumb and index finger (not sure how it is called) , should be a lot more thinner .

Hand's shows characters emotion , just like face . The hand on your reference is little bit nervous ,and strained . Be sure that's what you shooting for .

No need to apologise, I appreciate all input. You're absolutely right about the thumb will have to fix. Also right about the wrist, though, I wasn't really focusing on that.

Yeah, the ref's not the most beautiful hand but I wasn't concerned, I just wanted to try sculpt using only zspheres and Qmesher (and no dynamesh), and it turned out better than I thought it would. Funny thing is, I never even thought of the hand representing the character - thanks for the insight.

Was going to show update but now I'll go back and fix those things you pointed out.

Still a little scrappy but, overall, I'm kinda pleased - less transexual and less of a frankfurter thumb. Still can't get those nails to come out cleanly with the normal bake, though.

getting there, looks a bit bulky, you might want to make it slightly more narrow to emphasise it's female even if the ref is a perfect match.

I forgot the say some facts about female hand .
Well , it's much smaller than male's . And it's looks so easily breakable . And , the bones aren't that much visible .

As I look at this hand what you did I would say , this is a hand of a 25 to 35 age female , who's 180 cm high or more , and she's a strong character [mentally] . And that's what others talk about when they say , it's looks like it's a male hand . Well said ,cause it could be a hand also for a teen male (if it's gay) .

But after all , of course that's just my opinion . And probably others don't give that attention about the hand of their character .

Hence to hence , every person's hand is different . Just like faces .

Not the mention that hand could contain some marks and tell about person's past .

Not sure if that's help , and may it sounds like I playing my mind .

Ha, ha. Actually, Garp, Silard is surprising correct about this hand. Here's the face of the "chick" who it belongs to:

So, as you can tell this was the first hand reference I found in my 3dSK folder (I actually didn't even check out the "chick," just looked for digits to test my skills on). And you can see that she, indeed, is a 25 to 35 age female , who's 180 cm high or more , and she's a strong character [mentally]. She'd probably kick my ass.

No, Shafi, I'm just testing my skills in zbrush. And there's no way in hell I'm going to be staring at THIS chick for a week or two. I'm just doing her hand, trying to get it as realistic as possible.

No, I made the initial hand in 3 hours, been tweeking off-and-on for a couple of days. Got a killer cold right now, so I'm all doped up on cold and flu tablets.

I need to adjust the SSS as it's a little orange, which you can see with the middle finger particularly. Anyway, I like the diffuse texture which was created in zbrush using Zapplink plugin.
