Fælm - New short movie!
show user profile  MrPumpernickel
So while having nothing else to do during the evenings of the last couple of weeks I threw together a little short movie. It's quite obviously inspired by Don Hertzfeldt's different short movies, most famous one being Rejected, but it also takes inspiration from elsewhere.

Oh...and of course I used 3dsmax for certain parts :P

You're insane !

Loved it - very unique style. Somewhat random in a Monty Python-esque cartoon kind of way.

Worth watching - just the right length. 4/5.

[Plot spoilers ahead - don't read if you haven't watched yet]

Had a great emotional rollercoaster feel to it - genuinely felt for the character who had an unfortunate end. Not quite sure why he didn't move, but I don't think making sense was what it was all about. Not sure it was actually about anything, but that doesn't really matter.

The audio was great and the syncing was spot on. It really added to the mood.

Great work, Mr P.

the style is nice..

I gotta admit that the only Hertzfeldt thing I remember seeing is Rejected, and it was far more fun than this, didn't even smile a little. (not sure that was the intention though)

I got the idea that this would make a rather nice screensaver though.

Terribly boring signature.

yeah , liked the style, a bit 'arty' for my taste but the animation and sounds synced well, and it had a nice feel. I did find myself looking to see how much longer it would run.

If you based this animation style on a more defined narrative it would be great .

I found it to be strange (obviously), it was semi random-hilarity mixed with a heavy dose of neutrality. Like what I was seeing was so absurd it was enjoyable, but at no point did I feel 'entertained'. If you're following?

Well I'm glad that wasn't weird... at all... :|

Great stuff, MrP. And the reference was clear - although not as disturbing (which is odd, coming from you). I Enjoyed it though - please do more :)

Cheers

DannyMax, since I made this mostly for my own reason, to alleviate boredom, I'm happy if anyone gets it. I'm not sure even I do :P

advance-software, why doesn't a deer caught in a headlight move, why does people who run away from a car run in a straight line? These are all questions we must answer.

TiMoN, of course it was more fun, this wasn't really made to be fun...just to be random. If you laugh then it's purely coincidental.

Sir_Manfred, Flash, Illustrator and Premiere basically.

Davious, I'm too haphazard for narrative. I did a short movie that I wrote and directed mostly everything about a year ago. Took way too much planning, but we pulled everything off in three days (albeit with little sleep). I consider that still being my crowning achievement when it comes to short movies.

Garp, too little.

Dave, it's really funny how differently this works in different crowds though. Another more artsy forum I posted this at had people herniating while laughing and here it's sort of "meh". Not that I have a problem with that, it's just interesting.

HateTank, I felt the world had just about enough bleeding anuses for today :P

Doubtful that there will be more with just this style, we'll see. I'm off my internship in a week so then it's back to school and time diminishing again.

It would have been hilarious if the box that ran that guy over was actually just a wire frame and just encompassed him and passed on... You wouldn't be able to tell because of the white background!
