Exporting from Maya into Max - best method?
show user profile  aniworld
Hi im sure this is pretty straight forward but i dont own a copy of Maya to try it on?

I want to export a character from Maya into Max with textures, im thinking export using .fbx? I've also read that you need to collapse any history on the model and export it as a single mesh instead of using groups?

Is this right?

I recently tried the other way, Max->Maya, and got best results (fewest errors) from OpenCollada. You'll probably have to install a plug-in. Else, just try your method, if it works, then it works.

FBX, just delete history, we do it all the time here at the studio

from Max to Maya, all you need is to add an edit poly on top of the stack, to prevent the mesh from triangulating...
