Engraveing text in a block
show user profile  marc512
Right now im just doing small projects to get my experience up in using 3ds max. I was looking at another post where he had a block with text engraved in it. Now i want to know how to do that. Is there any tutorials on how to do this? I have 3ds max 2010.

You could just do it with bump mapping.

mrgrotey i did exactly what your video said but i still cant get it...It doesn't seem to want to apply the texture, when i do the uvw mapping it just goes all to pot.

Im counting the milliseconds till your next reply :)

Sorry Marc, I'm not MR.G, but i do have a question for this thread on displacement mapping. If you wanted a gradual engraving (not just a 90 degree sharp edge for the engraving) is there a setting for this in max to kind of buffer the edges a bit, or would you need to do the shades of gray to get it to be a gradual engraving?

Yes ! Displacement works on grayscale values.
