Pringles tube + gaffa tape + bluetak + elastic bands = not required when working with a pro !

Nice.

Now we need a hi-res shot/video in focus, framed correctly, without compression.

(or very high quality compression settings if you must use it).

Pulled this from an FAQ - some of it might be helpful ...

My EGG photos are coming out fuzzy. Why ?

There could be several reasons. Because of the unique design of the EGG, your camera will require using an aperture (f-stop) of at least 5.6 or higher numerically. You must also use the macro function. Put the camera on a tripod and use the self timer to trip the shutter.

When I take an EGG 360º photo inside a room, it looks like an atom bomb went off outside. The windows and doors are nothing but white light. How can I fix this ?

Your camera is being overloaded by the sun light. You need to even out the exposure in the room. Try closing the blinds or drapes, shutting the doors, and turning the lights in the room on. Sun light is very intense. You want to try to even out the light sources in your 360º photo.

When I am outside and the sun is shining brightly, the area of my photo where the sun is located is overexposed and there is light streaking all around that part of the picture. What can I do ?

Unlike standard photography where you can put the sun at your back, 360º photography has different requirements. You must try to hide the sun behind an object (such as a tree or a pole) or try shooting when the sun is higher in the sky. Shooting outside in the Winter is particularly difficult, because the sun is low in the sky.

I am shooting inside a room with several spotlights and I'm getting light streaking in my photos.
How can I fix this ?

Light beaming directly into the lens causes the streaking you are seeing. Try adjusting the lights so they do not point directly into the lens. Any intense, direct source of light that enters the lens will cause reflection and streaking.

The horizon in my EGG photos moves up and down as I pan around the picture. Why does this happen ?

The lens was not level when you took the picture. Mount your camera on a tripod and make sure the lens is level.

My picture is not as sharp as I would like it. What can I do to fix this ?

Make sure your camera is set to the highest resolution and all other settings are correct. Mount your camera on a tripod and use the self timer to take the photo.

It looks pretty cool, but I guess I need to stop and ask why this would be practical for anything outside of having fun with?

Edit: I mean I am not photography and know very little about cameras. I can see how a fisheye lens would be practical as far as warping the image in a small and appealing way, but total warpage of the image to the point that you can't even make out what it is seems a bit like a waste to me. (not attacking you or anything, just wondering if you could supply me with some uses for this lens in certain situations besides shooting leprechaun porn).

The 360° image is created by reflecting the environment off the mirror at the top of the egg "lens" onto the camera sensor. This creates the warped projection.

The next stage is to unwrap the projected circular image into a regular parorama for standard viewing.

Applications then range from virtual tours to 360° films, real estate property presentations, etc.

We haven't got as far as unwrapping one of Steve's images yet.

Check out the CNN 360° video of Haiti for an example of how this technology can be used.

Once Steve is able to produce a properly framed & focussed video using the egg, we will be able to create something similar.

This is work in progress. You don't usually view the distorted images/video directly.

Holy smokes! I had no clue this is how they made thos panoramic videos (and images)! Then never mind about me bitching about practicality, this thing is pretty much the future of home video.

Perhaps. I don't know what equipment CNN used. There are other approaches.

It remains to be seen if we can create high quality 360° video using the egg.

Alternative product comparison here : http://os9al.com/oneshot360/index.shtml

The 0-360 sounds the most interesting.

I know nothing about it but seems to me they used more than one camera, as one of them looks darker.

Waiting to see what you two can come up with
