Easy way to make hair (cartoon style)?
show user profile  Stianbl
Hi again,

Still working on this animation, and I'v tested out finalTOON now. Looked great! But now I want to make some hair for my model. Hair/fur is out of the question, as it takes ages to render, and doesn't look like the style I want. I want more like a anime style, since my renders will be that way. Tried to find tutorials on how to make hair, but cant find any good one.

ANyone here know of some tutorials?

This is the model I'v tried to follow. So far so good. I want to make hair like that, or in that style.

Thanks in advance! :)

Actually, Hair and fur is possible to use anyway. Found out I could set it to geometry, and get the finalTOON effect. But I cant change the color? How come?

Also, since I'v first started this thread: How can I fix this problem?
Nut sure how to solve this... We are 2 at this group, and my friend made the head. Not a perfect fit, as the neck is very simple...

Time to fire your "friend".

And punch/kick him on the way out (preferably both).

Just in case you missed my point. That thing thats supposed to go for a head... Its ugly. Very ugly...

There are plenty of head modelling tuts on the interwebz.

Go do a few and model the head yourself.

Since you actually seem to follow my advice i looked up an old head tutorial i still remembered.

Its for a female and probably has a bit more detail on the nose then you need but overall structure is sound and more importantly edge loops are correct so you can easily build your male stylized cartoon head with this topology as wel.

Go knock yourself out and show your friend what a little effort can achieve. :)

EDIT: Thanks for the link :) Will give it a try =)

Heres a quick render of the figure as it is now with the head on. If there are any ways to make it work, please let me know. Would be great if I didnt have to make a new head for this guy. :P

note: more details in texture will come. Just a fast render..

Just so i understand this correctly. The model you've just shown me is supposed to look like the drawing you posted at the beginning of this thread? If its supposed to and all you worry about is how to attach the head to the neck i will be silently retreating...

Well.. The head was not made for this model. So the head ain't suppose to look like the head on the picture.

Also, the body need a little bit tweaking. The arms looks a bit too long. ut I just followed the drawing. :) ANd I have to add some details too. And the picture I posted was just a reference. I just need a model to animate :)

And the texture is just simple colors for now. I just made the model, and been working on the rest of the scene too. And I said it was supposed to be cartoon-style. So no great details. :P

Hmmm, ok. If you really think it looks so bad, please crit it so I can make it better. Never been any good at humans. Thats for sure.

you can also model hair with polys ala Jimmy Neutron for example:

You're just going to need to cut more loops into the body to get the head to fit..

.. or poly reduce the head

... or a little of both

@Reality Man: Thx, but I found a way to make it :) Just scaled the thicknes of hair up a lot, and used geometry. Worked great ;)

@Ancient-Pig: How do I cut out loops? Do I need to go through the whole model, or are there any fancy way to fix it ? =P
