Doormat model
show user profile  BishBashRoss
I'm struggling to find a decent doormat model. I know I could try to make something with scatter/proxies but I'd rather avoid the hassle if possible.

Anybody found anything like this in the past?

I think zbrush's fibermesh can make it pretty easily... but will take a while to import.

[edit] make a plane, then make a morph of the plane extruding upwards, then fibermesh by morph target. Done.

2 minutes work. I used grass setting and tweaked the size and colour. But you could make them curly or whatever as well, just use a preset.

[edit] I like Strat's better, though. All depends on what style you're after.

That looks pretty good Strat! Where's that from?

made it for a job on the weekend. simple vray displace.

it's in C4D, but not hard to re-create in Max i'm sure.

(infact, looking at my settup again, i think it's a normal map not a displace. tis only a mat, how detailed and real do you need to get? this looks fine imo. client was happy)

Thanks herfst, I can get a similar result with proxies but it's then getting that to have the pattern and variation in colour etc, spending the time to fineness it that I could do without.

Strat, thanks. I might be able to get away with displace, hadn't really considered that. Where's the texture from?

Edit.

Yeah the camera is getting pretty close to it. It's for an image of the lower part of a front door for some mailout.
