I'm pinning the uv's and when I select move and click and drag (all mouse buttons) nothing happens? watching the video it seems straight forward. moves fine when un-pinned. any idea what I'm doing wrong?

ok think I got it. but you have to select an un-pinned uv in addition to move them. doesnt say that in the vid tutorial :( might be a bug

when you've verts you want to pin selected press p to pin, select the other verts you want to move against the pin with, press r and you'll get a crosshair- the new pivot point of the chunk of uv's- then you can move and scale and rotate without the pinned verts moving
when you've finished moving the chunk press the button on the top row- 6th from left- (white arrow pointing on a green square in a black outline) to go into select vert mode again
here you can unpin the pinned verts

K-tonne: In the video tutorial he locks a uv vert then selectes the locked vert and goes to move mode. the crosshair snaps to the locked vert and he freely moves it, warping the rest of the uvs. he doesnt select any other uvs.

I tried this and just couldnt move the locked vert, neither would the crosshair snap to it when I went into move mode. heh, the guy who made roadkill worked two floors above me, but was never around to answer my questions! :\

yeah- i've not really watched the vids- and never seen rk do anything like that
time to get a broom out and start smacking the ceiling till the guy comes round to call lol
all pin has ever meant to me was to isolate that vert- quite intregued about all this warping though
