Do I need a new website?
show user profile  digs
I chopped a bunch of b/s out of my site, tried to keep it really simple, but i wonder, is it too unprofessional? or something?

I see all these fucking cookie cutter wordpress sites with blogs and twiters and shit i don't use, and it looks professional or w/e, but it feels so fake (no offense to anyone using a wordpress template - part of what im wondering is if i need to be using one too)

I wonder, is that what I need in a site? or am i good with what I have? I kinda like the simplicity in my design, but then again, im not employing myself...

I'll be blunt here.
The site looks awful.
Things are out of place, there is a lot of blank space, you should reduce your gallery picking only the best content(same goes for the reel)
There are some professional looking projects and some amateurish looking ones.
I don't really know who you are before having to contact you.
When telling people you are an award winning animator, link to that award for credibility.

here are some templates that you can take as an example of how should your website look:

When I landed on your website, I immediatelly saw some jobs done. Not talking bullshit about how hard your life is, and other nonsenses. After all, that's what this industry is about, getting the job done. And if somebody think you can get his job done, there's a contact button for him. That's how a portfolio should work.
On the other hand, it feels a little bit messy for some reason. So might need a little tweaking. I think that the part above the contact button is not needed. Also it might be better if you drop the demo reel to another page. But that's just my opinion. And I do not have a website.

Congrats, you found my signature.

cool thanks for your feedback fellas

that seems to be the general consensus from everyone, it's either a turd, just fine, or get rid of the less refined art, lol

I really don't want to search through 20k fucking wordpress templates, but it looks like that's what my night is going to consist of

thanks again

just a heads up.
If you think templates looks cluttered with too much items/information, it is because they need to be pretty generic and the showcases show all the things that you can have with the template, but in reality you should stay with only around 30% to 50% of what they show you.

1. Change the theme to AccessPress Parallax
2. Create a number of categories.
3. Grab 5 paragraphs of "Lorem Ipsum" filler text (select-copy-paste) here:http://www.lipsum.com/feed/html
4. Create a number of dummy filler posts by pasting the Lorum Ipsum text in the body.
5. Have a number of posts assigned to a single category.
6. Add more categories.
7. Add more posts assigned to these categories.
8. Drag and drop a number of images into the Media section to upload them to your web site.
9. For all of your Posts in a single Category, make sure you set the "Featured Image".
10. Start reading here: https://accesspressthemes.com/documentation/theme-instruction-accesspress-parallax/

Scroll down to the Portfolio section and complete the steps.
If successful, scroll down to the Blog section and see if you can complete these steps too.
You can have a number of articles (read: "posts") in a category displayed as Portfolio, and a different number of articles (read: "posts") in a different category displayed as Blog.

Have fun. Styling themes comes last; adding pages, posts (including feature image), categories comes first. You can always select a different theme to style your web site differently. All your content remains 100% unaffected when you switch theme.

Don't stare yourself blind on pictures used in a theme; apply the theme and focus on layout, fonts, formatting, etc. It is easier to swap images afterwards, but it is more difficult to change a 3 column layout to a 2 column layout later on for example. Also, don't mess with {div} tags as you will probably stuff up responsive design, parallax effect and cross browser compatibility. Work within the template, not on the template.

Looks good. I would have included some fluid and fume stuff though, that stuff is always impressive to laymen.

1. The music in your demo reel makes me want to punch babies in their little baby skulls.
2. I had to click too much while using your website.
3. Personally I would condense it all into one nice and easily scrollable page.
4. Ie. A sentence or two about yourself. Your demo reel embedded beneath it. Then your Gallery page directly beneath that. Maybe with links to your "Projects" somewhere on there too.
5. Let your work speak for itself, lots of really nice stuff on there. All a prospective client / employer needs to have is a quick glance to see the caliber of your work.
6. Hang in there. I know how painful the whole website "making" side of things can be :)

Personally I don't like it.

There is way too much blank space.

Where you have your phone you should hace way more. (Name, Email,Location{City, country}, specialization)

You need to update your reel, but after that, the video is completely static, doesn't scale with the website which ruins the responsiveness.

It is also too small , you have all that blank space, you could make the video way bigger.

Your main display piece is the sphere robot thing which is one of your projects you should drop and not show. it looks very amateurish.

if you don't have at least a couple of paragraphs to write about yourself, you don't need an about page.

the projects page is alright but I would expect some kind of thumbnail with each title and single pages for each project explaining in detail what it was about and what was your contribution in it. Pictures are very important here.

for the gallery you should use something like prettyphoto or lightbox instead of just linking the pictures.
And the tab of your gallery should be second on your navigation bar.

==========
My recommendation: web design is not your thing. Hire someone to do it.
Its a whole career and trying to do it yourself you will always end up with something mediocre.
You could try to do it yourself and get a low quality website to be your introduction to new potential clients or
you can spend a couple of hundreds of dollars for a really stunning website that will do real justice to your personal branding.

What you are doing is analog to this situation:
A client learning that the scene he wanted was going to cost him more than just 20$ and saying that he doesn't want it anymore. He will search for some free models in turbosquid and make the scene himself (with no education or knowledge whatsoever on 3D modeling/lighting/animation/etc).
