Anyone with disposable income want to rent a room in Edinburgh, Scotland?
show user profile  LionDebt
My girlfriend and I are (hopefully) going to the South of France for two months in January and February 2012. We'll be renovating an old farm house (stripping wall paper, plastering, cornicing, hanging lining paper, painting and general decorating...), and the job literally involves us doing this, while lodging, food, wine, cheese and company are provided.

As such, we aren't being paid very handsomely (for what is effectively a holiday in France), we desperately need someone to rent out our current abode which is a pretty swanky Georgian town house smack bang in the middle of Edinburghs' vibrant New Town area.

I'll be honest: Rent is at £350, with council tax at £55 and estimated bills totalling around £40.

Anyways, instead of harping on about it in here, I'll direct you to our gumtree advert which gives some more detail.

I figured it is a nice opportunity, maybe some of our European or American friends are visiting Edinburgh for Hogmanay (New Years), or even some of our British members might want to come explore Edinburgh.

Essentially, we need a tenant or two or we don't go to France.This is all. If you don't give a France about my situation, you can go suck a fronat :)

half your luck! If I wasn't making some large investments right now, I'd come straight over. Sounds like a golden opportunity.

He who says it cannot be done is interrupting the man doing it.

Haha! Cheers, Jamie. It was always a long shot!

Investments? In this economic climate? You crazy fool :D... Hang on... here's an idea...

Make an investment in enriching your life by visiting Edinburgh for two months? I can go crazy half-price deals, on you (effectively: bring Liani and the rent is halved between the two of ya!) Whad'ya say? :)

So you're gonna slave for two months restoring a farm for a bag of beans and you call it 'holidays'?
Any idea how much these things really cost (especially in the south of France)?
I think you're being screwed.

Where are you going exactly?

Sounds fun, I'm basically just bumping this.

Damn London is expensive (expensive because it's awesome though)

@Garp:

The region is between Toulouse and Bordeaux, and the nearest town is called Condom (was hard to hold in my snigger when the man told me this). The sketch is that a Scottish couple have been living out there for roughly ten years, building, restoring and renovating houses to put onto the market. They now have two kids aged 3 and 5 and realise that they're a lot busier now and want a hand. We're going to go live with them for a couple months and just provide a hand finishing this place up, they intend to move back to Edinburgh once this one is done. Emily (my girlfriend) will be helping with cooking, babysitting, gardening and walking the dogs etc. Whereas I'll be steaming wallpaper off, plastering and painting etc. We are getting paid for doing this, except the payment is

@Marktsang:

Yeah, the no couples thing was sort of a 'lets do this because we think it makes sense but really we dont know what we're doing' affair. I'll need to speak to Emily but ultimately we need to rent this place out - I couldn't care less if a couple had the room, hell... Bring your whole family, if you don't mind being cramped :)... Will also need to speak to the other two flatmates here - but they're cooler than me, so don't worry.

Just bumping the gum tree advert:http://www.gumtree.com/p/flats-houses/lovely-double-room-available-for-january-february-in-the-new-town/92355998

Explains it all in a bit more detail.

Ah, it's a purely scottish business then ;)

Reminds me of this one:
The Irish pray on their knees,
The Scottish prey on their friends.

If the rent wasn't around the average Croatian monthly salary, I'd definitely take it :P

Sorry not going to be of much help to you, I'll be coming over soon, but will be skipping Scotland.
When you said 350 I assumed that would be per week! and yea, pretty dear, but 350 + all the other stuff per month? converted back into aussie dollars works out around $175 per week, whats the go there? That wouldn't get you a spot under a bridge over hear!

Sure thing Jim. But any whales, space snails, or small mammalian creatures will be £50 per minute.

@ Dr, Jim, I don't think they allow farm animals in the apartment.
