i m trying to make a block of ice in wich a text is carved
mrgrotey posted o movie about displacement map , but in it, he gets a carved text with nice edges
and i get this..
what should i do to get nice text edges?

If you're using mentalray... Change following value to 0,5 and try again.

timo i changed the value even to 0.1 and i still got jagged edges
i am useing mr and a poly as shown in the pic
mb i dont have the right setup..

Text is quite problematic to displace :-)
Two things you can do to help out the renderer
1 ) Create large enough bitmap to use as your displacement map (in this case bigger = more accurate)
2 ) Add Gaussian Blur to your text
If you're trying to carve a text on a flat surface. You should consider using Shape Merge and model the text.
Small addition ... On flat surfaces you can also use ProBooleans.
