Displacement

Hello!
I'm just trying to create a m ray material using displacement for carpet simulation. I've watched a lot of tutorials but I can't perform it. When I render the material, displacement doesn't appear. Just a flat material without texture.
I don't know if the problem is about render set-up or similar. Please somebody help me!

Have you set the settings for displacement in the render options? Also, you might need to up the scale of the displacement.

Yes I am, Displacement (Global settings) its activated. I've been 1 hour scaling my map and displacement measure. Is there another possible thing I'm missing?

Haha Nik I just have internet in my mac, and you know, there isn't max for the apple. Everything has a reason, people is not just stupid.

dav08, I didn't mean to imply you were stupid!

Could it be a scale issue? Too small or large will make it not work. In the thumbnail of Map#138... is it just white, or can you see your pattern/bitmap there? Double-click on the square preview to enlarge it.

Don't worry Nik, just kidding. I can't see the pattern in arch&design display or map display neither. I don't know why...

first make sure the mapping is good by sticking the bitmap in diffuse or whatever
next tune down the filtering on the bitmap to make sure it doesnt get blurred out (set blur to 0.01)
next make sure you got enough vertices to work with, on a plane just up the density, on a poly add tesselation modifier
next make sure you arent exceeding global displacement limits, rclick on object, object properties, mental ray, uncheck global settinghs, up the max displace value to at least what you set your extrusion strength to
next make sure you got enough pixel samples to work with, in the same place (object properties) lower the edge length
also for a carpet you should be using height map displace not 3d displace since thats just a waste
