Demon Crit
show user profile  TheShrike
Hi all, I am at the mid sculpting stage on this demon before I do any real detailing, and I'm wanting to get some crits on the anatomy and such. Of course this is not totally human so there are some liberties taken but I need to know if anything looks really funky. Oh, and he is going to have a loincloth on so I didnt model the butt area much.

Please let me know! THANKS

cool hands- maybe not demonic enough- veins popping, longer ragged nails, stronger fingers etc
the anatomy on the lower legs needs rethinking- the feet don't look like part of this creature- more avian to me- go human style but gnarled or something- the calves need defining, as does the upper leg musculature
then there's posture- he looks ready to fall flat on his face in the side shot
big pecs but no tricepts? makes the back view feel odd when you go from the back muscles to the arms
the head is massive- makes him look small- but without some of the proportions that a midget would have- a head of that weight would need muscle
looks more like an imp with the face of the mekon :)
could be good, think about the dude, what he does, where he lives- it'll give you ideas about what to do with his body

Generally agree with K-tonne.

For me the proportions are off. He has this mammoth baby head on a quite puny little body. You can keep it - but you'd have to give him broader, stronger shoulders to reflect his behemoth neck which holds that head up.

Also don't think the feet 'fit'. With sort of reptilian bird feet as he currently has, I'd half expect him to have a beak and bat-wings.

Other than that, looks good. Look forward to seeing the end product/more detailed sculpts!

Maybe he was human once and the big head is his torment and now all he wants is a little head :)

The best monsters are the ones that most closely resemble humanity, it freaks us out far more then any form we can't really relate to.
- Instead of 3 fingers why not have 2 of his fingers seem like they have grown together, that way he has 3 fingers but they hint at 4, that way he more closely resembles our own form. it's always the little details like that that make a sculpt great.
- the head is as said a lill' over the top, scale wise.
- his elbow is not where it's supposed to be
- the legs I guess you still need to refine.
- the overall facial expression is fine, his ears however are not. He reminds me of your typical goblin but the ears are to thin and they feel like they were pasted on at a random place on his head with no regard for position or rotation.

I agree with pretty much all of this. It is a generic evil creature, and I guess I wanted to keep it simple because I am a beginner. The head is too big and I have hated the legs since I put them in. The ears are definitely out of place.

I have a ways to go as far as just feeling out anatomy for a fantasy creature, which is difficult because you know... It is intentionally inhuman, but still needs to follow some rules... it's tough. The elbows probably need to be a little lower?

Thanks all so much for my first crit on here.
