Deforming toothbrush hairs
show user profile  Artorius
Hello. I need some help deforming the hairs of a toothbrush when brushing teeth. I can't seem to acomplish it. I've never used reactor and i'm interested in another way of doing this. Also i'd be grateful if someone could propose a way of animating the brushing action - moving the toothbrush across the teeth. The way i thought was using a path that the brush will follow. Thank you very much!

How many strokes back and forth are you talking about?
The following would all have to be hand keyed except for the brush on a path.
You could do morph targets for the bend of the bristles, forwards, back,,side, side.
Then use an FFD mod for any further deformations.
Is it to be stylised or realistic?

It's going to have many strokes as it's intended to be a 5 minute presentation on brushing teeth correctly. Ofcourse I want it to be realistic, the bristles to enter between the teeth spaces and so on. On the other hand this seems very difficult, specially for 5 minutes of animation...

I don't think Flex supports collision (but I'm not sure) - I'd say reactor softbodies might be the way to go.

btw configuration of that brush is not with stiffness but with gravity ;3

its just a little trick, it looks better
there is like a -20 of gravity and .5 of stiffness

Looks good, I don't know if it works when rotating the brush all the ways. Main problem is that I'm on Max 6, so no hair available. I've found a nice plugin (SimCloth) which can do something like this:http://www.spot3d.com/simcloth/animations/torus.avi.
So I'm tryng to figure out how to apply it couse by this moment I couldn't do the hairs with it but I believe it is possible.
