Decent tablet
show user profile  stevey2shoes
Hi, can anyone recommend a decent tablet please?
Im a fulltime carer and author, so I need someway to keep an eye on someone while I continue to write.
I bascially wanted something I could use twitter, facebook, emails etc from (which I'm sure they all do) and also something that can hopefully run Microsfot word 2010 (as this is what I use at the moment)

Can anyone recomend anything, even if its to warn me against a product or better inform me what to look out for?

Didn;t really want to spend any more than £200... as it doesnt need to be super duper.
thanks steve

what about a chrome book? I believe you can put MS word on there.

you wont get a much 'decent' tablet for £200.

As Error eludes to, why not a cheap laptop?

For writing and internet i have a chromebook, best piece of tech i own. Everything and every app on my phone is synced and even tells me when my phone battery is low. I even watch tv on it as i havent needed to buy one. It cost me $120 Aud, 9 hours battery full use and i have 1tb google data so never runs out. I use google docs for writing, drive for data, its usb3 and has multi touch pad like a mac. It also has a cold boot time.of 4 seconds... which is amazing. Its 1 pound in weight and a very nice keyboard

Only issue is it doesnt support real software (only apps) and not much codec support only really avi, i wouldnt recommend it for watching movies. Streaming google.movies is fine. I have installed ubuntu on it for watching movies but the os itself is amazing for a new comer.

I would imagine writing on a tablet/pad would be painful without a keyoard.

Edit. Even on my work powerhorse ive uploaded all my msoffice documents to google which is fully supported and i actually find better for the fact that if the power goes out its automatically saved. or i want to go back to a previous version it keeps every change u make in a history log

the ipad pro and new Pencil is fabulous for hand writing/sketching. i mean, seriously awesome in this respect. i've personally dumped my note pad and pen in favour if it, but heck, much much non-cheapness. infact, we're in small mortgage territory here.

^^^

Looked into this a few months age, Tesco Hudl2 was the best option before they discontinued it, Chromebook was the only other "budget but with good features "option.

Chromebook Flip is around £200...ish.

Thanks for the replied.
To be honest it was either a tablet or a laptop... tablet just felt cooler (as this would be my first one)
Someone also recommended the HUDL a while ago when I first thought about this.

So far, tablet wise, the only thing that was jumping out was the lenovo tab2 a10

gonna look into chrome books now
thanks for the nod

I'd say any decent Android tablet with 2GB RAM, 16GB storage and a decent display.

You can get MS office for Android. Mind it's not entirely like the windows version, but it's not at all bad. MS/Google Play is a bit picky on the subject of compatible devices. IT requires at least 1GB of RAM, Android 4.4, and a certain display size. But I have seen tablets, which lived up to these requirements but still got the "Device incompatible" error.

Any Bluetooth keyboard should work. Otherwise, if you make sure your tablet supports USB On-the-Go, you can use any USB keyboad.

Terribly boring signature.
