Creating a wireless hotspot start page
show user profile  9krausec
This is a bit off topic, but I was wondering where to start looking for instructions to redirect people that connect wirelessly to my D-link router to a specific initial page like some coffee houses would (like a title page).

any ideas on where to start or what this type of initial page is officially called so I can google?

Cheers!

You need to setup a wireless authentication server using services like RADIUS and/or NAS. Most commercial routers don't support this feature, check that your router does support this. Or your router needs to run some kind of Captive Portal software.

I'm guessing you want this for in home use, so the cheapest solution is find a router that lets you put linux on it and install some captive portal software on it.

Found this with a simple search: http://www.hotspotsystem.com/en/hotspot/wifi_hotspot.html

Seems it's free but you need a compatible router. The list is in the installation guides section
