Creating an HDRI map from a 3d scene
show user profile  xandos
Hi guys, I have a room set up, and need to render another thing in the room. I was hoping to have the background just as a still image and composite on the object within, to make for a fast render. To look right, the model within would be reflecting its environment and such, which I guess means it'd have to render everything every frame. Could I create an HDRI map to use from the room that I have, so that it would match up? How would I go about achieving this?

Many thanks.

I've managed to do this, if anyone wants to know how:

In the reflect/refract map you can render a cube map from an object. I then took this into ATI CubeMapGen and ran some filters on it, saved as a dds, loaded into photoshop, changed to 32 bit and saved as HDRI. Works nicely.
