creating a cactus texture with text
Hello, I am trying to build a logo with the text made from a cactus. I'm fairly new at 3ds Max so I might be doing things wrong.
I tried adding a bitmap of a cactus texture to my diffuse bitmap parameter, but it looked horrible. It kinda looked stained glass.
Can someone tell me if there is a fairly simple way to create a cactus material over text? Thanks!

It probably won't ever look good with just materials and/or textures, guess you need to model the actual cacti 'stings' (or whatever they're called) which shouldn't be that hard.
Just make some cone primitives and spread em around the text, that should get you started.
there are ways to automatically scatter the cones over the text, like scatter under compound objects.

I used the basic marble material, just changed the lighter green to something a little darker.
Then I used
to paint little cones all over the surface. Link the original one to the text, that way all the rest you paint will be, and you can move it around the scene easily. Will also make it easy to find them all when using "select by list".
The black triangle on the S is a mesh error, ignore it lol.
