how do I create a shape from a section using max?
I can't figure this out. I can create a section easly enough:
section length:13 width:51 POS:[ -10,10,0]

But how do i create the shape?
I imagine it would be something like createShape 'Shape01'

but i can't crack it
Can anybody help
thanks dazza

Erm, what?

Are you trying to create shapes in Maxscript or something? What do you mean by "section"?

hey dazza -

convert your object to editable mesh or poly
if you like the mesh go to edit geometry/ edges respectively, select your desired edges and hit the CREATE SHAPE FROM EDGES button - there you go, you only have eventually set the vertices interpolation to corner.
if you use polys there is a button named CREATE SHAPE FROM SELECTION - does the same.

greetings, U.

Yes . on the command pannel are the buttons create/shapes/section.
Once you have created a section ( this is only a "slice plane" at this stage ) you can then press the
button "create shape". The result is a true cross secton of the selected object whare the slice plane was . I guess this result is a spline.
Waht I am wanting to know is how do you "press this button" in max script in order to create this final cross section.

thanks fro replying. dazza

Hmm, well i'm by no means an expert in Maxscript... hell i'm not even a beginner really. But when I open up the Maxscript listener, and use the button in edge mode / editable poly. The listener reports back with this:

$.EditablePoly.createShape "Shape01" off $

Which, I can only assume... is saying "create the shape and call it Shape01 off of the selection"

Edit
If you'e already well aware of this, and are looking for a way to 'make your own button' I suppose... then I'm of no use what so ever. Someone around here will definitely know the answer though.

I'm just not receiving this valuable piece of data coming back in the listener:
I literally don't see:

$.EditablePoly.createShape "Shape01" off $

I'm using v6.0, and am working on a heavily booleand editable polly.

It also might be a quirk on my installation .

Hmm, well I don't know if this will help or not, but here's what my MacroRecorder settings are like:

Its odd but no I don't see this.
Anyway I have found something else that does help me.
This converts the resulting output to a spline:

s = section length: 10 width: 10 pos:[-10,10,0] isSelected:on
conVertToSplineShape s
s.renderable = true
s.name = "shape01"

Lets consider the matter closed
thanks
