Dirt map and a blend material yo. That would be map generated for sure I'd say.

Also add a gradient ramp and make it go dark/light/dark/light and random intervals. Now go to the output tab and click the RGB button for the graph, and play around with the curves. Once you have an interesting result you can use that falloff map as part of the blend (or composite map).

Grant Warwick did a good tutorial, but the link I have is now broken, maybe he changed domains or something.
