Working on this classic car model in my free time. This is my second attempt to create a car model with no blueprints (first was a failure) so there's no guarantee it will be successful.
It would be grate to know well how to build complex models like cars using images only. Would be glad to hear any advises from people who are familiar with this kind of modeling.
Currently I'm trying to fit the model with photos using the same angle of camera in my viewport which is frustrating a bit.

Have also a few payed projects to work on so I'm not sure how fast will my progress be.

is there a reason that you're not using proper references?

The image above doesn't seam too distorted to me. What references do you consider proper? Would be glad if you sent me a link to Mercury Cougar XR7 1969 proper images.

Tis the firs place I looked for. Theres a nice side blueprint of Cougar 1967 but too small and a bit wrong car model.

what i meant was setting up your blueprints/refs in the viewports for front. side, top ect... rather than just using one perspective.

Your model looks good so far, dont get me wrong. Just a strange approach

Car blueprints are often nowhere to find. This model is not exception. Even if there are blueprints somewhere I'm trying to learn how to get along when they aren't available, it happens very often.

good idea I guess.
Loving the modelling so far, very clean. you should check out smcars.net to see if they have any blueprints.

everything seen through a lens is distorted which means every photograph is too, the left/right/front views in max are non perspective so even tho you might have the perfect looking side/front/whatever angle references they will never really match up

You are right Stabby. Even adjusting viewport camera lens close to camera that made reference photo never gives a perfect match. I should always look carefully at the model and remove whenever mismatch is noticed. Photo fit still helps a little...
Oh, and front, left, back, top, right references will not do. Better use 45 degree front and back images that aren't distorted by lens much.
