Cosmic Fool needs your help - Vote for Battle Treads
show user profile  Cosmic Fool

Hey Everyone,

The alpha version of Battle Treads is complete. My team and I have been working on this game over the last few weeks. It's been entered in a Unity3D game design contest over at First prize is $10,000. My team and I are hoping to fund the next phase of production with any money we might win. Even if we don't win, we'll still build the next phase, it might just take a little longer. :P

Anyway, my game Battle Treads: Tankin' Ain't Easy is available to play here:

You will need an account to show up in the leader board and most importantly to rate the game. :D

Please support independent game development and be generous with the rating. I'm also really interested to hear honest comments. They'll only help us make the game better.

Advance-S: I don't think that error is actually related to the game. Could you try it again and let me know if the same thing happens? We've had a few random crash errors that I'd like to try and nail down.

Davious: I didn't realize this until I asked the programmer but for the first room of the tutorial you actually have to press W,A,S and D (moving the tank in all 4 directions) before the forcefield opens up. Kinda confusing eh? I'll make sure that gets changed. The AI also needs some dumbing down. Right now it's pretty flawless.

What does everyone think of the player controls? I've been getting a lot of comments saying they're too difficult, but what exactly is too hard to control? I know there's something missing but I can't quite figure it out myself.

Any thoughts?

P.S. Don't forget to register and rate the game!

Same again, Win7/64 & FF4B11. Maybe it doesn't like FF4.

My guess would be it doesn't like FF4. Since Unity is a browser plugin maybe it hasn't been updated to support the latest beta? I'll pass this info on to the programmer.

Thanks guys.

The comments you are getting about the control could be the RC element.
This is difficult for most people if they didnt have a RC car as a kid :-)

You know that when you are driving towards yourself you have to turn right to go left etc...
When you are driving away from yourself you shoul turn left to go left as expected.

When going sideways, well... thats anyones guess :-)

I dont have this problem myself as I did quite a bit RC'ing as a kid.

BTW, there isnt really a solution to this other than practice.

Pil, that's a great way to describe the controls! It's exactly like an RC car. I'd almost fforgotten about those things. :)

Only played the tutorial level, found the controls to be overly fluid, the RC car metaphor is a great way to describe it, the problem is you're controlling this very speedy/snappy little vehicle in quite a confined area. The inability to rotate on the spot is also a little jarring, even after I knew it couldn't be done I was still consciously trying to do it!

The tutorial text is also very difficult to read and comes in way too fast, I missed most of it but was still able to play through okay.

Thanks for the feedback Dave!

I'd definitely like to be able to turn on the spot. That's something any tank should be able to do.

I'd also like to fix up the tutorial. The whole thing was done in an hour before the deadline. The text is way too wordy and I don't know why the programmer chose white text on a white snow background. Most of the text is filler anyway. I'll see what I can do about getting that cleaned up in the next day or so.

Any and all feedback is appreciated. We need more ratings in order to move on to the next round. Pass this on to your friends!
