This has been my renderer of choice for some time. I love it.

And miss it now I've moved away from Max.

Getting there mate, but so many things I haven't figured out yet, and some of the features I rely on in Max aren't there. Give it a couple more months and I should be there, hopefully.

I still use Max at work though.

Great news about Corona. Nik, I've also learned Blender, as a backup application. There's some things about it I really enjoy. However, I still prefer to model in Max; I think it has better tools overall. The way modifiers work in Max is much more flexible.

I do prefer the way Blender handles extrusions, and some of the selection options for basic modeling are much faster and more efficient (loop selection). On the other hand, 3dsmax has some tools that Blender does not, even with all the available addons. I also found the way 3dsmax handles things like cloning and duplication far more sensible. The Similar Select algorithm in 3dsMax is also more intelligent, and I've used that quite a bit lately in all my modeling. In some cases, you can use Similar Selection to completely circumvent the use of symmetry (especially radial symmetry), saving a lot of time.

So it's time to look for a new free renderer to use?

"So it's time to look for a new free renderer to use?"

You can still use the Corona Render A6, which they have released as a free unlimited version. It's still a fast, capable renderer, but doesn't have a lot of the new features obviously.
