Corona Materials
show user profile  K u r a i
I just posted a request on the Corona Forum asking for help to use Corona Materials and why there is no info on this matter.

This is the response I got:

Corona has nothing to do with it, at all.
I strongly recomend you to start with tutorials that ships with max itself:http://docs.autodesk.com/3DSMAX/16/ENU/3ds-Max-Tutorials/
When you'll complete all of them, you can look for specific tutorials on youtube or a paid ones, like digital tutors, etc. Then, and only then, you can come to forums and ask for help if such need will arise.

I posted this on the "I need Help" "Do you have a problem with Corona, don't know how to use some feature, create some material. etc? Ask for help here".

This is why I came to Maxforums.
I expect this atitude from Users but not Moderators. I really am fed up :(

I think the problem is that the developers don't have time to teach people to use the basic features of Max, and a certain level of competence is assumed.

Ask your question here. I will try to help.

But Nik... I am affraid of posting questions. When I joined your site I was excited...like a child at Xmas and I posted lots of stuff (non-max related) that pissed people off. But, that was because I had just been through a revolution in Egypt and was desperate to talk about things that made me homesick.
I just wanted to feel me again.

Now that's out of the way... I am at my last hurdle... materials in Corona.
I know how to apply "Colour Correction" in Bitmaps (from watching vids) But I am really stuck on how to apply Corona Materials and what are all the other features in the Corona toolbox.

I will compose my questions shortly so it's easy for people to respond with specifics.

Thanks Nik for being considerate :) I am at a loss.

Corona Materials come with a 3Ds Max file. When I open it the following appears (see pic).

It was advised that I should open (merge) all the materials (in Max) I like and save them as a materials library.

Is this the best method?

K u r a i, when you post here, you will get some helpful people, some people posting Internet memes, some people who are grumpy, and some people who are annoyed with the question. It's an open forum with few rules other than "generally don't be dicks to each other".

You just have to take what you want from it and ignore the rest. Once you learn this, and stop caring what people say, you will get more out of this place. Some of the cleverest and most helpful people lurk here.

I would add to that that members generally don't like questions that can be answered by Google or the Max help file. Asking questions you already have the resources to answer for yourself is seen as being lazy (although I@m not accusing you of doing this)

I will try to help where I can!

Kurai, your keen to learn, there's always crossed wires, miscommunication, misunderstanding in forums, it's inevitable and probably the worst delivery method available when your trying to learn something.

It's infuriating with the added bonus of having to learn in a public arena, your not doing anything wrong, that's just the way it is.

I don't like material libraries. I've never kept one or really used them.

I have to admit, when I want a material from another scene, I merge the object with the material to my new scene and use the "get material from selected" button, then delete the merged object.

In Sketchup you use an eyedropper to sample a low res materials. Right click (change material to:) and it's done. I used the VRmats alot for stuff like porcelain and marble. It was an essential part of my workflow and I was happy.

I am looking to try and create something similar in Max where I can block suff into the scene very quickly and then concentrate on the high res stuff like Arroway.

But, Nik, I like this idea of the "get Material" from Object. It is similar to Sketchup.
So, I can just create a cube, apply a material, save it in a folder and bingo, that's it.
Is this what you mean?

FX... I feel your words and you are right.

I am a very open and honest person. This has it's benefits. But sensitive too. I wear my heart on my sleeve. Tried to toughen myself up by joining the RAF... that failed bigtime.

That's why I am sticking with Maxforums. I can be the problem child of the site :)
But, I will really try not to upset the VIP's Nik. Sorry about that.

Yes that's what Nik means. You should avoid "obvious" questions or you're gonna get trolled. That's just the way it is.

And this isn't a snarky comment, most of my "trolling" hasn't been trolling, just trying to help you in my own way.

Thick skin is essential.

Hell, I don't know of many members who haven't been trolled at one time or another (even Nik gets trolled about his tight jean fetish). We're just fun loving trolls who enjoy a laugh.

Yes, I know Herfst. I already know you are the Bilbo Baggins of the site. A fun loving Hobbit.
I also know you hav'nt got a harmful bone in your body. What you say does not affect me :)

But I won't be posting Mexican Midgets anymore... I think it colours people perception of me.
