Copy/paste anim - convert groups to dummys
show user profile  reeves1984
So I would like to avoid some sticky situations. I don't want to use groups at all, they're a mess when it comes to layers for a start.

But after been handed a scene, ideally I'd like a script that converts the group to a null/dummy ('point' really) keeping the animation.

As all you need to do really is making a Null, align to the group, copy tranforms from group, paste to the null, parent everything to the null.
Should be easy to script.
But instead I can't see how to script the part about saving/copying animation... Even if it was to a temp file, when I use the maxscript listener it just shows me menu macros etc.. not helpful..

A group is a dummy object, really. With no mesh and some weird properties.
If you select Group001 in the viewport and type classOf $, it says ObjectSet. But if you type classOf $Group001, it says Dummy. Weird.
