2 Computers sharing files using the same router?
show user profile  Jock
If I am using the same router where my computer is wired to it and my wifes laptop is wireless, what exactly do I need to do to make it so she can see the files on my computer. I need her to access specific files and update them from time to time, but on her laptop as opposed to my computer.

Cheers

The firewall rules must allow it on both PC's.
You must have shared folders on the PC for the other one to see it.

You could install dropbox.com on both computers and it will keep a copy of the files online as well.
Its free, fast and it works....

requirement 1: be on the same network - check
requirement 2: be on the same workgroup - you can see and change the workgroup name in computer -> properties
requirement 3: be on the same homegroup - one compute has to make the homegroup others have to join, you can find the homegroup page by typing homegroup into start menu
requirement 4: share a folder - rclick on folder, properties, sharing, advanced sharing, tick share, permissions, tick full control for everyone, ok, ok, ok
