computer almost killed itself
show user profile  parkerfamily
my computer was dead for the last 5 days, my dad finally fixed it by changing it's default boot device and letting the bios go to optimal. we also pulled out and put back in the RAM, since sometimes it dies from the RAM being loose. this crash has happened once before, and replugging in the RAM fixed it the first time. this problem starts with my mouse getting completely frozen and jumping to the center of my screen, the lights on my mouse (it's a laser mouse) turn off, like i unplugged it, so my mouse is completely useless, no options in the control panel bring my mouse back, and unplugging it and plugging it back in/just pushing it in harder does nothing, so both times i have to restart. then it gets stuck on the blue screen that says powerspec and intel, the very beginning of the boot process for ages. i press delete to get to the BIOS and change the default boot device from the cd-dvd drive to my hdd, i don't know how it got there, and then reboot, it doesn't freeze on the blue screen nearly as long anymore, so i open bios again, because windows still isn't working, although it can boot to desktop, but all input devices die at that point. i press optimize settings, and take out my 4gb of ram and replace it with one 512mb stick, and it can boot completely, just everything runs trashy, so then i put 2gb back in, and it works, 4gb in, and it works. that's where i am now, computer is apparently running fine right now, but what the HELL happened, i'd love to not lose my computer for a week again.

one thin I will say is putting 4Gb of ram in a computer with Xp 32bit can make it do alsorts of mad things that can seem very random too. other than that it sounds like you got a crap computer.

ya i've read it kills xp, but i'm running vista bum bum bum bummmmm. and it is sort of whatever the best of that part was at bestbuy when i decide something should be better, and a lot of tape. (some of my cables don't connect well in my sound system, so i have to use tape to support them so they connect) so it's really thrown together. i'm actually tempted to completely take it apart, sell all it's parts on like craigslist or something, then buy parts that were made to go together, and make it more for games and max than all the other trash this thing does. (i have 3 drawers filled with game cases, yet there are still more programming and antivirus apps on it than games)

and also, it's really one active anti-virus, 3 different virus scanners, and about 6 analysis programs for posting on forums when it dies.

...and then right my friend paul came round and he had a new bike and I was all like "hey paul nice bike, i'm gonna ask my dad if i can have one" so I went to see my dad and you'll never guess what I asked him, I asked him for a new bike lol and he said no but anyway I got to ride on pauls bike and it wasnt as good as i had imagined so im really happy that my dad said no cause I think if he had said yes then I wouldn't be as happy right now because that's money wasted and i want to spend his money on new computer bits because i'm also out of tape and when the tape runs out then that means my cables don't work anymore lol because they cant connect right and I use tape and for some reason I can't work out why my computer keeps breaking and there's a question in here somewhere that I want everyone to answer but I'm not making it very obvious so you're probably just going to take the piss out of me. It was a really nice bike though but pauls parents are like really rich and so he gets everything and it's so not fair because he's not a nice person and I'm a nice person so my parents should be rich too and then I'd get a new bike even though I don't want one lol.

Dave what the hell. You added a period in the middle of your sentence, making it a sentence fragment.

Paul let you try out his new bike and then you accuse him of not being a nice person?

also, the main error code was "win32k.sys has encountered a critical error" does that process have anything to do with inputs?

"(i have 3 drawers filled with game cases, yet there are still more programming and antivirus apps on it than games) "

that'll be a problem you should only ever install one anti virus package or they will conflict with each other.
As mentioned unless you are running vista 64 bit then 4gb of ram is useless, 3gb is all you can effectively use on 32 bit. but having 4gb plugged in shouldnt cause problems.
It sounds to me like your motherboard battery is dead or something in your dodgy wiring is shorting out and resetting your bios.
try changing the battery on your motherboard and see if that fixes it.
