Cloth modifier problems

Hi everyone :)

Using 3ds max and I'm having trouble with the cloth modifier. I have my model, and I have a plane passing through the model. I add the cloth ,modifier to the model and in object properties I set the model to be the collision object , then I add the plane via "Add Object" and set it to b e the cloth.

However when I Simulate local it still passes straight through the model :(

Weirdly enough, when I set the plane above the model then run the simulation, the cloth sticks to the very top part of the model. Its like one vertex at the top of the model is set to be the collision object instead of the full model.

Where am I going wrong? (I definitely have the full model selected, not just one vertex)

Am I correct in that your cloth is passing through your collision object? If so I assume your problem is that the collision object is trying to get the cloth out of it by pushing it away. It wont collide with it because it's not supposed to collide with the inside of the model. Instead delete the part of the cloth that is inside the model and lock the surrounding verts to the model, this way should look the same but actually work...

Further to what mamatoast posted... to lock the cloth to the model . go to cloth > group subobject > select the verts you want to attach to the model > select make group > highlight that group > select surface > pick your model mesh.

Ok, I tried an experiment - I opened 3ds max, and created a sphere and a plane. The plane was situated directly ABOVE the sphere. Applied the cloth modifier and the plane again simply passed through the sphere - the plane deformed slighty but still passed straight through...

try your experiment again, but this time bump up the segments on the Plane like 20x20 or so.
Collide it again and it should droop nicely.

To all - thanks for all your help - it all works fine for me now - ill come back if I have any other problems but thats everything perfectly answered for now.
