cloning polygons inside of a mesh

i have a building that i am playing around with. i want to create some window details and clone them allong the entire height of the building. i normally would create mulitple copies of the mesh and then attach. but i was watching this video and that software has the ability to clone the polygons. i have max 7 and wasn't able to figure out if it was possible in Max? in the video, it is about 1/6th of the way into the video where they do the cloning.

Use the array tool with the preview box selected, or just hold shift and move the object along the axis you want.

I hate that jing does embed. Am I missing something?

Toldaddy: you need to go to 'customise keys' (or whatever its called) and add a new button then assign the embed function to it. they just took the embed button off by default not entirely

thanks for the replies. Toldaddy, it looks like box that you were arraying was a seperate object from the building. I want to be able to keep the whole thing as one object. the Shift and drag worked, but it isn't very accurate. was hoping for an array option so i could controll the distance of the spacing.

Is there some specific reason why you can't attach them as single object after cloning ?

whoops, forgot that minor detail. yeah I can't find a way to do it. I'm sure a scripting genius could come up with something. That's kinda irritating now that I think about it, it should just work. Sorry man.

yeah, because i like to be difficult:)

Acutally, no reason other then it looked like a pretty quick way to do it. I could just make the cross section and clone, attach and bridge, but i thought i could learn something new as well as cut down a couple of steps.

Modo has some nice features... I played with the demo for a while, but jumping from Silo3d (minimal interface) to Modo (interface covers 70 % of screen) was bit too much at the time.

can't you just include the area up to where the next clone will be in your cloning? then you get the height as you want it
